With a vacation to your favorite destination on the calendar (unless you’re already an Oahu local), you’re counting down the days to an experience you’ll never want to forget. Maybe you’ll lead your little ones up the Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail where your husband proposed a decade ago. Maybe you’ll bring your grandma back to the Lanikai Beach where she used to snorkel as a teenager. Maybe you’ll grab malasadas at the Leonard’s Bakery truck after watching the sunrise at Halona Beach Cove, just like you did on your honeymoon.
But unfortunately, once you’re off vacation time, the hustle of the real world can dull even the crystal-clear-as-Waimea-Bay memories you’re trying desperately to hang onto. Through my unique Oahu portrait photography experience, we’ll send you home with the best possible souvenirs: your memories preserved forever.
But I know time is tight on vacay, and you won’t want to waste a single second on an awkward, staged photo shoot! Through my intentional, personalized approach to portrait photography (one that begins long before you arrive at Daniel K. Inouye International), we’ll craft a session that is truly you from start to finish. No taking time to warm up for the camera. No working through unflattering poses before we find what works. No trying to force your antsy kiddos to sit still. Just diving right in with true-to-you playful prompts that help us capture what matters most: moments of connection. Connection to the ‘aina (land), to each other, and to yourself!
So, whether we’re documenting a family reunion, a surprise proposal, or your annual Christmas card photo (don’t worry, locals, I haven’t forgotten about you!), let’s totally transform the way you view portrait photography forever!

To give ourselves plenty of time to customize your experience, reach out as soon as your plane tickets are booked! All you have to do is head over to my contact page to tell me about your trip and the session you’re hoping to plan. Then, I’ll be in touch to confirm my availability, answer any questions, and tell you more about the packages I offer. I’ll even guide you in the direction of the package that best matches your needs and vision!
After exploring all the options (including the a la carte add-ons!) and making sure we’re a perfect fit, let’s make it official! And don’t worry about choosing a location or session time yet, since we’ll cover that in our planning call. With just a 25% retainer and signed session agreement, I’ll pen your session into my calendar, we’ll schedule our Zoom call, and then the portrait planning can begin.
Immediately after scheduling your planning call, you’ll receive a questionnaire that helps me better understand your session goals, along with a location and style guide. My location guide is bursting with all of my favorite places—from Instagram hotspots to places most tourists never see! I share images of each location, my recommended session times for each (based on lighting and crowd density), whether or not drone photography is permitted, and more. And my style guide will help you craft the perfect wardrobe! But don’t panic—I won’t abandon you to finalize these details on your own!
After you choose your favorite location using my guide and begin to assemble your ideal session aesthetic, we’ll jump on a Zoom call about two weeks before your trip to nail everything down. We’ll start by making sure the location you’ve picked suits your overall vision and come up with activity ideas to match. We’ll also dig more deeply into any questions that have come up as your session nears. But this call isn’t just about the nitty-gritty…
This right here is my favorite part of the entire process, not to mention the step that makes my approach to portraits completely unique. It’s where I’ll learn that the secret to unleashing your three-year-old’s personality is to ask for his best Spider-Man pose. It’s where I’ll find out just how much PDA you’re comfy with. It’s where I’ll find out your least favorite angles and whether or not Dad is a fan of photo sessions. This is where I’ll discover what makes you you so I can guarantee a comfortable, genuine, fun session from moment one!
Enjoy the beginning of your trip to Oahu (and don’t forget to try out some of those activity and restaurant recommendations I sent your way!) as I finish up all the necessary details for your session. And don’t forget to layer on the sunscreen! Let’s avoid lobster-people in our photo session, OK? I’ll get any permits we need and double-check location availability so you don’t have to. Then, I’ll send you a final reminder with any last updates the day before the session. Now, all you need to do is show up and have a blast!
On your session day, we’ll meet at our chosen location and head to the perfect spot for your photos. If that means kicking off our shoes and racing into the ocean, great! If it means tugging on our hiking boots and hitting the trails, awesome! I want this to be more than a photo shoot; I want it to be an experience. An adventure, no matter what “adventure” means to you. And from the moment we arrive, I’ll be capturing the loving moments of connection you’ll never want to forget!
While you’re still digging your toes in the sands of Waikiki Beach, a little ding in your email inbox will announce the arrival of your sneak peek! I know how hard the wait is to see how your photos turned out. That’s why I’ll send over a selection of favorites within just 48 hours! So, enjoy that pina colada and your first glimpse into your best vacation souvenirs.
Just two to three weeks after your session, your fully edited digital gallery will arrive! With that bronzy vacation glow still going strong, snuggle up with your honey or your whole family to reminisce on the trip of a lifetime. And with each new image, I hope you vividly remember the way your kids stared in awe at the family of rays they spotted in a tidal pool or the way your brand new fiancé’s eyes shone as he dropped to one knee. Moments like these are once-in-lifetime but, now, they’ll never, ever slip away.
Imagine what your destination portrait session could be like as you explore the stories behind some of my most recent sessions! Here, you’ll also find posts full of portrait-specific tips and tricks to guide you through the planning process like a pro.
There’s no better place to pop the question than Oahu! But planning the perfect surprise proposal can feel super paralyzing, especially if you’re traveling from out of town.
Let me give you a hand! I can’t wait to help you surprise your dream girl or guy with a proposal that celebrates your love story and matches your unique personality as a couple. We’ll find the perfect spot and time of day to avoid crowds, and I’ll even help you plan the activities for before and after! We’ll keep it all hush-hush so your fiancée-to-be doesn’t suspect a thing, and then I’ll send you home with a gallery of images you’ll cherish forever!

My goal is to help visitors experience my island home like lifelong locals! So, let’s explore locations you’ll never see tagged on Instagram and hit up shaved ice stands off the beaten path as we capture your vacation memories. To accommodate everything from family reunion sunrise sessions to romantic surprise proposals at Manoa Falls, I offer a wide variety of collections and customizations to ensure we absolutely capture your vision while meeting your needs.
After inquiring you’ll receive more information about each available package (the Heirloom, Souvenir, and Snapshot), and I’ll help you decide which one is best suited to your vision.
I love inviting my local clients to play tourist in their hometown! So, whether you’re hoping to capture your annual Christmas card photo or fill an entire album to mark a milestone, let’s bring a modern sense of adventure to the stale old portrait experience. We can visit a spot that already means the world to you, or I can recommend a place that, even as a local, you haven’t yet had a chance to explore. And no matter what you envision for your session—from length to number of people in front of the camera—I’ve got a package perfectly designed for you!

I’ve got it covered with location-based timing recommendations! But no matter where we’re headed, sunrise sessions are most often ideal. The crowds are quiet, the traffic is minimal, and the morning glow is perfect for island photography! Now, I know a sunrise to-do doesn’t really sound all that “vacation-y,” but remember: Hawaii is three hours behind even the latest U.S. time zone. That means, even if you’re coming from California, it will actually feel more like 9 a.m.! And if you’re really not feeling an early session, we can absolutely find a spot that accommodates sunset sessions, too!
You don’t have to be all over each other to come away with a romantic gallery of photos! During our planning call, we’ll cover exactly how much affection you can reliably show in front of a camera without blushing or bursting into laughter. Then, we’ll plan your session around it! We can introduce activities and props that feel more natural than a seaside makeout, including hiking, splashing in the ocean, or grabbing shaved ice. Once, I even transformed an engagement session into a totally kissless sushi picnic, and the photos are some of my favorites ever!
The secret to great children’s photos isn’t about perfect posing; it’s about a connection with the photographer that makes the giant camera feel less intimidating! That’s why I dedicate ample time in each family session planning call to help you prep your kiddos. Whether it’s showing them my picture and calling me “our friend Hannah” or “Auntie Hannah” or sharing their favorite cartoon character with me so I can drop a reference when we meet, we’ll find the perfect way to their heart! Best of all, my sessions aren’t needlessly drawn out because my prep process guarantees we’ll capture gold from the very start.
You’ll get ‘em! While my approach is centered around movement and sincere connection, I’ll still send you home with images Grandma can’t wait to frame. Thanks to my proficiency in wedding photography, I’m a pro at wrangling even the most unruly groups and massive families for posed portraits. But remember, we want this session to be about memory-making, not “smile and say cheese” perfection. So, while we will grab those posed images, at least 80% of your images will be dynamic and filled with movement!
This is yet another reason why my planning calls are so important! During that call, I want to hear about even the smallest insecurity or past-session horror story, so I can make sure to prompt you in ways that highlight features you love and minimize the ones you don’t. I guarantee anyone can love the way they look in photos—it’s all about lighting and angles, baby! And while I won’t totally Photoshop you beyond all recognition, I’ll still smooth away those blemishes or do a quick head swap if someone blinks during the best family photo.
I’ll never try to force you to behave in a more outgoing or extroverted way than you’re comfortable with! I just don’t believe you have to be a party animal to fill a gallery with images radiating joy. But it is important for your photographer to know your comfort level in advance so we can plan for it! For example, if you’d like a little more privacy for your session, we’ll find an alternative to that super-crowded hiking trail that still has an unbelievable view!
Oh, I hope you do! As soon as you’ve booked, I’ll send over a curated guide (organized by scenery, popularity, and location) filled with my favorite photo spots. From beaches to jungles, from difficult treks to so-accessible-your-grandma-could-jog-it, I cover the whole spectrum! Then, we’ll decide during your planning call which of the locations is perfect for you based on vision, timing, crowds, and other factors (i.e. whether or not the drone photography you have your heart set on is allowed). And if you’ve already got your eye on a location I haven’t listed, let’s take a look!
I’ve gotchu! My rule to live by when planning session wardrobe is that YOU should be the star of the show…not those matching bright pineapple print ABC tourist shop button-downs. And let’s agree to agree that the only palm trees in your images should be the ones behind you, OK? Between my style guide, blog posts, and planning call, you’ll be overflowing with location-specific wardrobe tips. And I’m always down to give my thoughts on fitting room selfies as you shop for the perfect look!
I’ve got great news: most Hawaii rainstorms only last about ten minutes, so just waiting them out is usually the way to go. But if your session day is looking super rainy, we can scoot it to a different time on the same day or choose a different day that week. There’s always another option, though, for the most adventurous among you… We could always just go with it! You’d best believe I’m always down to play in the rain, and I keep my car stocked with clear umbrellas just in case. Plus, if we get lucky, we’ll end a rainy session with one of those famous Hawaiian rainbows!
As you probably expect, Hawaii is a popular vacation spot, so portrait calendars fill fast. That means it’s best to inquire ASAP to ensure your date doesn’t get snapped up! To begin the process, all you have to do is submit an inquiry, and I’ll be in touch within just 24 business hours to keep the conversation going. From there, we’ll talk specifics, and a signed agreement and paid retainer save your date!

Whether you’re celebrating a milestone or just another year surrounded by the people you love most, let’s turn your Oahu vacation into heirlooms that will decorate your home for decades! And through my unique prep process and experience-first approach to the session itself, you’ll look back on your images and wish you could relive the day all over again!
